What we collect
- Account details: your name, email address, preferred language, and your password, which we store only as a secure hash. If you sign in with Google or Facebook, we also receive your profile picture.
- Your content: CVs, cover letters, the saved versions of each, share links you create and the ATS reports you run.
- Billing details: the billing name, address, country and tax ID you give us at checkout, and your subscription and invoice history. Card, UPI and bank details go directly to Razorpay; we never see your full card number.
- Security and device data: IP address, browser and device type, approximate location derived from your IP, sign-in times, and a device identifier we use to spot sign-ins from new devices.
- Support conversations: messages and attachments you send to our support team.
- Usage data: how many times a share link was viewed, and aggregated request metrics that help us keep the service fast and reliable.
How we use it
- To provide MakeCVBetter: saving and syncing your documents, rendering templates, exports, ATS checks and writing suggestions.
- To process payments, issue tax invoices and manage your subscription.
- To keep accounts secure: detecting suspicious sign-ins, alerting you about new devices and preventing fraud and abuse.
- To send service emails such as verification, password resets, receipts and export notifications. We don’t send marketing emails without your consent.
- To answer support requests and to improve the service using aggregated, non-identifying statistics.
- To meet legal obligations, such as tax record keeping, and to enforce our Terms of service.
Writing checks run on infrastructure we operate. Your CV content isn’t sent to third-party AI providers and isn’t used to train AI models.
Our legal bases
Where laws such as the GDPR or India’s Digital Personal Data Protection Act apply, we rely on: performing our contract with you (running your account and plan); our legitimate interests in securing and improving the service; your consent, for optional cookies; and legal obligations, such as keeping tax invoices. You can withdraw consent at any time.
How long we keep data
- Your account and content are kept until you delete them or your account.
- Exported PDF and Word files are kept until you delete the CV they belong to or your account.
- Sessions expire on their own, and security logs are kept for a limited period, at most two years.
- Payment gateway event records are deleted after 90 days.
- Invoices and the billing details on them are kept for as long as tax law requires, even after you delete your account.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you can:
- download a copy of your data at any time from Account → Privacy & data;
- correct your details from your account settings, or ask us to;
- delete your account from Account → Privacy & data, which erases your CVs, versions, cover letters, share links, exports and ATS reports immediately and cancels any active subscription;
- object to or restrict certain processing, and withdraw consent you’ve given;
- nominate someone to exercise your rights if you die or become incapacitated, where Indian law provides for this;
- complain to a data protection authority, such as the Data Protection Board of India or your local authority in the EU or UK.
For anything you can’t do yourself in the app, email support@makecvbetter.com. We’ll reply within 30 days, and may need to confirm your identity first.
How we protect data
Connections to MakeCVBetter are encrypted, passwords are hashed, sessions can be revoked from any device, and downloads use short-lived signed links. Access to personal data inside Aayodhya Enterprises is limited to people who need it. No system is perfectly secure, but we’ll tell you and the relevant authorities promptly if a breach affects your data, as the law requires.
International transfers
We’re based in India and our providers may process data in other countries. When data leaves your country, we use the safeguards the law requires, such as standard contractual clauses.
Children
MakeCVBetter isn’t intended for children under 18 and we don’t knowingly collect their data without a parent or guardian’s consent. If you believe a child has given us personal data, contact us and we’ll delete it.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we’ll update the date at the top of this page and, for significant changes, tell you by email or in the app before they take effect.
